THE FILMMAKER & THE APPROACH

AI filmmaking.
Directed by a filmmaker.

A strong film begins with an idea, an audience and a reason to watch. The tools follow that intention.

I’m Diogo Pessoa de Andrade, an independent Portuguese film director and cinematographer based in Lisbon. My work spans documentary, music videos, branded films and corporate storytelling, with more than 20 years of experience in audiovisual production.

Creative Visuals is my personal creative identity. I work with brands, agencies, production teams and independent artists, either independently or with collaborators selected for the project. I’m available for projects in Portugal and selected international productions, as well as remote collaboration.

As an AI filmmaker, I bring that same experience to generative production: defining the visual language, directing iterations, assessing the material and shaping it through editing, sound and colour. Human judgement connects those stages into a finished film.

02 / GENERATIVE DEVELOPMENT

Characters, worlds & visual exploration

Develop a fictional character, explore a visual world or test a concept before committing to a production approach. Consistency across shots, directed performance and a clear narrative purpose guide the generation and selection process.

03 / POST-PRODUCTION

Editing, sound & colour

Bring filmed and generated material into a coherent audiovisual experience through shot selection, timing, compositing, sound design and colour finishing. Where appropriate, AI-assisted voice or sound tools support the intended performance and atmosphere.

CHOOSING THE METHOD

Live action, generated or hybrid?

The right method depends on what the film needs to communicate. A generated character can be effective for fiction, satire or visual experimentation. Work that depends on real testimony, lived experience or cultural knowledge may call for documentary filming. A hybrid approach can preserve the real performance while extending what is possible around it.

That choice also shapes the production process. References, source material, permissions and the intended use of recognisable people or voices should be established at the beginning. The appropriate tools are selected around the project, with care for how the finished work represents its subjects.

WORKING TOGETHER

From a first idea
to a finished film.

A useful starting point is the story you want to tell, who it is for and where it will be seen. Share any references, existing footage, desired formats, delivery dates and an indicative budget.

From there, we can define the creative approach, the live-action or generative elements involved, and the editing and finishing required. My involvement can cover the complete process or a specific creative or production challenge.

Lisbon, Portugal · International & remote collaboration

Can AI work with footage we have already filmed?

Yes, where the source footage and intended effect allow it. The WeTransact and RAMMA projects show different ways of combining original cinematography with generated elements. A useful first step is reviewing the footage and the specific problem to solve.

Can we work together remotely?

Yes. Concept development, review, generative work and post-production can be discussed as a remote collaboration. Projects that involve live-action filming require a production plan for the relevant locations and team.

Does every project need AI?

No. The story, audience and production conditions determine whether traditional filmmaking, generative tools or a hybrid approach will serve the project best.

What determines the scope and cost?

The creative development, filmed material, complexity and consistency of generated scenes, duration, formats, review stages, sound and finishing all affect the work involved. A project-specific brief is needed to define the scope and prepare a proposal.
